The Sweet Vandals es un grupo español actualmente formado por la vocalista Mayka Edjo, el guitarrista José Ángel Herranz, el bajista Santi Martín, el batería Javi Gómez, y el organista Santiago Vallejo. Su música es funk, deep-funk de sabor clásico, que parece salido de un 45 de hace varias décadas, un funk energétigo, contundente, con ritmo crudo, vitamínico, bailable, arrollador, sucio… De hecho, confiesa como influencias el “deep-funk más oscuro de principios de los 70, el más crudo James Brown junto a algunos de los artistas de su factoría”. Es uno de los referentes del revival de deep-funk, aunque la suya no sea una imitación ni una repetición, sino una personal reinterpretación que ha convencido a la crítica de todo el mundo. En cualquier caso, es uno de los grupos que debe escuchar todo amante de la música negra que tenga intención de conocer las propuestas más interesantes.
